A nod to Nigel Mazlyn Jones would have been nice. But I guess you had to be in the know.
super jaki
Ndugu Chancler on drums. Patrice is sounding awesome, for sure very Herbie influenced. What a marvelous touch on the Rhodes. This trio sounds fantastic.. crazy Actual Prooflike groove and some great jazz harmonies and intervallic movements. It kind of contemplates everyone I would dare to say. Also, there used be a trio with Patrice, Ndugu and Stanley Clarke. They recorded an album with some standards reimagined. Pure gold.
Absolutely flabbergasting. This is a dream line-up
If jazz musicians were Jedi, Betty Carter would have the highest midi-chlorian count.
I believe you are looking at the finest jazz trio ever assembled. Some would slide in Verniel Fournier, Israel Crosby, Idris M. etc.--but I really think this is it.
Det går ikke an å overgå selveste J. Garbarek
å da mener jeg J
Looks like something from a Jodorowsky film, love it.
As soon as you see Billy Bragg you know it's a crap documentary. And it was.
The makers of this film skipped over about 10 years of the British Celtic folk revival. No Bothy Band, Clannad, Battlefield Band, Tannahill Weavers, Planxty, Jock Tamson Bairns, Silly Wizard, Archie Fisher, Ossian, Mary Black, June Tabor, Dougie Maclean, Dick Gaughan, De Danann, The Clancy Brothers, Boys of the Lough, and more? That seems an idiotic blunder.
Jumping from Sandy Denny's death to the Pogues was a big leap in time, ignoring the huge influence of the late 70s and early 80s Celtic bands like Planxty, Battlefield Band, Archie Fisher, The Bothy Band, Boys of the Lough, The Clancy Brothers, Clannad, Jock Tamson's Bairns, Silly Wizard, The Tannahill Weavers, Mary Black, June Tabor, Ossian, and many many more.
this has been on repeat for dayssss
Love both dem bruhdas, both the host and the poet
Peter King sums it up perfectly ...he wasn't good looking enough and too old...so much for musical integrity..its about the music .nothing else ...people wake up !!!!!
Well said John Mclaughlin and Peter King ....British Jazz was world class played by world class musicians...as good as anything anywhere..😎😎😎😎
Heard the same piece in Bergen, Johanneskirken, in 1992. What to say. Raises pictures in mind every time I heard it since.
Dusan Stojanovski
i'm here and i thank TINTORIA
Damn i miss the 70's!!! Regarding the opening sequence here the Brotha's were so smooth & articulate back then I dont know what the fuck happened??? Ever since the 80's & 90's Cats talk like they got marbles in their mouths & sound so uneducated
honest
Amazing funk! Love that era of the Rhodes. Sounds just perfect!
I saw Jan Garbarek few years later in Melbourne, the same musicians and beautiful music .RIP Eberchard Weber
Astonishing, timeless groove!!!
Manni Neumeier: maybe, just maybe the german equal to John Bonham - listen to his solo in " Ooga Booga Special - anyways a master on the Drums 💜🔥💜👍👍👍🌈👽🖖
would like to enjoy it, but stopped after 20 minutes - too much advertising...
I uploaded it with no monetisation so it is not my doing.
Joe Sample caught my ear years ago, i get it
a wonderful doc but they barely mention british jazz genius Tubby Hayes he made great music in the 60's , sublime
how could she not have appeared in this form on american television in 1978 and beyond? i haven't looked for footage of her in a few years and as a result am finding it by the dozen tonight!!!!

Great thank you
14 likes in 15 years?! God damn! This is pure gold. Amazing talents
Had this taped on VHS! watched this a hundred times back in the day! Thanks for uploading pure 🔥🔥🔥
been coming back to this video for 15 years, hell yeah
Amazing
France has Christian Vander, Brazil has Hermeto Pascoal
I find it unfortunate that the series focuses primarily on singers and song, and largely ignores the rich instrumental traditions--and its interpreters--from Ireland and Scotland; not one mention of the Chieftains, Planxty, The Bothy Band, or Silly Wizard, who were pivotal in bringing session and ceilidh tunes to a new generation. Even with regard to singers, I cannot imagine a history of British folk music without any mention of Andy M. Stewart, Scotland's bard second only to Robert Burns.
where would rap be without AJ?
Who is the bassist? And is that Idris Muhammad on drums?
On Martin Carthy and Dylan, well worth checking out Carthy's own reminiscences: ua-cam.com/video/uqM_aQuuIZo/v-deo.html (3 parts altogether)
Love coming back to this documentary. I used to watch the Davy Graham sections over and over. Now I'm so into John Martyn I feel weird I totally missed him when I first watched this.
Bert Jansch also great
@@glennball4036 Absolutely. I got into him and Graham at the same time. Incredible.
Where's episode 2?
I saw Betty Carter perform several times in the mid-90s -- nearly 20 years after this performance -- and her voice did not change at all. If you told me that this was Carter at Blues Alley (Washington DC) 1995, I would totally believe you.
Wow, I didn't know this existed/. A favorite band for that era and onwards, until Dave's untimely death. Stellar band What a lineup!
O Mágico Hermeto da Música Universal! Aplausos do Brasil!
